The first Formula 1™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, to be held from October 30 to November 1, 2009, is a must-see event. It will also be the first race on Yas Marina Circuit. Situated on Yas Island, just off the coast of Abu Dhabi, Yas Marina Circuit is a short drive from the capital city of the UAE, adjacent to the Abu Dhabi International Airport and easily accessible from Dubai and other emirates through excellent network of roads.

Now, the inaugural 2009 Formula 1™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has now got a race start time at 1700 hours (05.00 pm). As a result, for the first time in Formula 1™ history, a race is scheduled to start in daylight and end during nighttime.

Yas Marina Circuit has been built to host day and nighttime activities. Staging Formula 1’s first ever day/night race offers the unique opportunity to demonstrate the circuit’s inbuilt flexibility and state-of-the-art facilities. Yas Marina Circuit’s lighting system utilizes the most advanced technology available. The 24-40 m tall outfield floodlights provide horizontal lighting. The smaller 7-15 m infield fixtures have a highly sophisticated ‘vertical controllable beam’ designed specifically to provide a consistent daylight effect as well as removing shadow and glare at driver level. The lights will be on from the start of the race to ensure a seamless transition from daylight to dark.
